Kingston Elementary School
Kingston, MA

An elementary school for grades PK-2 with a desire to reimagine existing classroom organization and space design to better align with growing enrollments, forward-thinking curriculum, and an integration of social/emotional learning. KES has engaged MLP to assist in professional development using a coaching model to help teachers envision and implement change.

Gomes & Hayden McFadden Elementary Schools
New Bedford, MA

A study of multiple renovation projects in two of New Bedford’s existing school facilities to better align antiquated space with educators’ visions for more hands-on, interdisciplinary learning. New Bedford Public Schools and their designer T2 Architects engaged MLP to assist stakeholders in the reimagining of instructional spaces, including but not limited to multi-use areas, media centers, art and STEM spaces, outdoor areas, and Special Education spaces.

North Kingstown School District
North Kingstown, RI

A master plan study as part of the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Necessity of School Construction Stage I process; the study explored long-range plans to improve district-wide facility and educational deficiencies and relieve overcrowding at the elementary schools. After a detailed study on the impacts of potential school consolidation, redistricting, and grade reconfigurations at the elementary and middle school levels, multiple paths to intervention were identified and shared with the community at large. This project was completed in partnership with Keelia Kentor, educational planner.

Central Falls School District
Central Falls, RI

MLP provided educational visioning, planning, and programming services as part of Central Falls School District’s Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Necessity of School Construction Stage II process. Educational planning efforts focused primarily on supporting two of the district’s major educational shifts and facilities goals, including:

• The design of a new, comprehensive high school that could support a more collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to core academic and CTE programming.
• The transformation of PK-5 schools and a 6-8 school into multiple PK-8 schools, including one newly-constructed PK-8 building to support the district’s robust dual-language program.

Educational planning played a key role in this transformation, including: enrollment, capacity, and utilization analysis; visioning with key stakeholders; and, the development of varied programmatic and organizational solutions to support district-specific dual-language programming.

Ai3 Architects also engaged MLP to support their design efforts in order to ensure alignment between the learning environment and the desired educational program.

East Providence Public Schools
East Providence, RI

MLP provided educational visioning, planning, and programming services as part of East Providence Public School’s Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Necessity of School Construction Stage II process. Educational planning efforts focused primarily on supporting two of the district’s major educational shifts and facilities goals, including:

A new Martin Middle School that would support project-based, interdisciplinary learning and a true middle school teaming model

Additional space within Martin Middle School to house the district’s growing PK program and all of its very specific programmatic needs.

MLP engaged educators, students, and community stakeholders in a series of district-wide visioning sessions and programming meetings centered around authentic, engaging learning experiences and the environments required to support those experiences.

Visioning and planning efforts also included the development of idealized spatial adjacency diagrams, an idealized space program, and educational specifications. Ai3 Architects also engaged MLP to support their design efforts in order to ensure alignment between the learning environment and the desired educational program.

Newburyport High School
Newburyport, MA

In partnership with Harriman Architects, MLP is completing a feasibility study of Newburyport High School’s arts and technology spaces to better align their antiquated spaces with their vision of a studio-based collegiate environment.

NHS staff and students envision a studio environment where arts, sciences, and technology converge in a more interdisciplinary, project-based approach to teaching and learning. Current space limitations, building deficiencies, and more traditional methods of instruction stand in the way of Newburyport achieving this goal.

MLP’s efforts include educational visioning, programming, and direct professional development to NHS teachers, which will allow them to reimagine and realign their desired curriculum, instruction, learning, and learning environment.
